The University is pleased to announce the renewal of its agreement with the China Scholarship Council (CSC). The CSC, under the Chinese Ministry of Education, supports international academic exchanges and scholarships and the agreement renewal allows for the continued implementation of a joint scholarship programme for top PhD candidates from China. Since its inception, the Bath-CSC Scholarship has enabled Bath to host excellent students who contribute to the University’s research culture.

Signed by Bath's Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Ian White and Mr SHENG Jianxue, CSC Secretary-General in November 2023, the agreement will see Bath continuing to host Chinese PhD students in a range of fields across all three faculties and the School. The agreement also enables CSC students to be supported to undertake PhDs aligned to the Bath Beacons, multidisciplinary beacons that prioritise key research strengths.

Over the period of the previous agreement, Bath hosted students who have researched topics as varied as Education in Asia, Hemp Reinforced Geopolymers for Civil Engineering; Green electrosynthesis for use in the Pharmaceutical Industry; and Business practices in a sustainable society.

Up to 10 new Bath-CSC Scholarships will be awarded annually for full-time PhD studies at the University of Bath, jointly funded by the CSC and the University.
