The University’s guest accommodation has been awarded silver in the Sustainable Tourism category at the 2017/18 Bristol, Bath and Somerset Tourism Awards.
There were hundreds of entries across the South West, with judges looking for evidence of excellent performance in each award category.
Two members of the award panel visited the campus in September 2017.
They viewed first-hand what Campus Services does to protect what matters and reduce the department's impact on the environment, during the guest accommodation period from June to September.
During the visit, ahs demonstrated its wide range of initiatives that support our objectives to protect what matters. These include:
- The Leave No Trace campaign, which helps to minimise waste and reduce our carbon footprint
- Our commitment to using ethically sourced food where possible. This includes using locally sourced ingredients wherever possible and triple certified, Fairtrade coffee
- The sustainable actions within lime tree, which recycles more waste than it sends to landfill
- Reduced energy usage in The Quads, with low flow showers, motion detecting lights and thermostatic radiators
- Our efforts to make The Quads accommodation accessible for guests with disabilities
- Staff training in environmental issues as well as disability and equality awareness
The panel were impressed with all the department’s efforts and in particular the Leave No Trace campaign.
Members of the ahs team were presented with the award at the ceremony on 9 November in Taunton.
