This Award is made in recognition of accomplishment in research combined with a significant contribution to teaching (including pastoral support for students).
Dr Kate Fraser was selected by the Committee for this Award for her acknowledged commitment and contributions to teaching, research and the pastoral support of her students.
She has demonstrated an outstanding research record in cardiovascular mechanics, with over 40 publications, including 19 peer-reviewed journal papers. Notably, she was the recipient of the Outstanding Paper Award 2013 by Measurement Science and Technology. Dr Fraser has utilised research work in her teaching to great effect, using both department research and her own to inspire students’ learning beyond the fundamentals.
Dr Fraser has also shown great commitment to the pastoral care of her students. For her personal tutees, she has created a programme of activities that range from time management through to preparation for examinations. Similarly, support for project students ranges from technical discussions to career choice and interview guidance.
With such an excellent reputation for her research and teaching, and the care and consideration shown towards her students, it is clear that Dr Fraser has a real dedication to the academic and personal lives of his students, as demonstrated by the outstanding testimonials received in support of this nomination.
