This international workshop brought together researchers utilising experimental and mathematical modelling approaches to understand fate choice in multipotent cells.

The keynote speakers included Dr James Briscoe (The Francis Crick Institute, London), Professor Nancy Papalopulu (Division of Developmental Biology and Medicine, University of Manchester), Professor Andrea Streit (Centre for Craniofacial & Regenerative Biology, Kings College London), Dr Igor Adameyko (Department of Physiology and Pharmacology, Karolinska Institutet and Centre for Brain Research, Medical University of Vienna), Dr Filippo Rijli (Friedrich Miescher Institute for Biomedical Research, Basel), Dr Philipp Thomas (Department of Mathematics, Imperial College London), Dr Meritxell Sáez Cornellana (IQS Barcelona), and Professor Tatjana Sauka-Spengler (Radcliffe Department of Medicine, Medical Sciences Division, University of Oxford).

The event provided substantial opportunities for postdocs and postgraduates to present their work, engage with leaders, and map out plans for collaborative research. The future of the Mathematics of Stem Cell Fate Choice is bright at Bath and beyond.

Though the objective of the event was ostensibly about the exchange of knowledge and sharing best practice amongst leaders using maths to better understand cellular differentiation, it has had rather surprising outputs. Subsequent to the meeting there are at least 3 groups working on grant proposals for the next wave of advances. Other groups are drafting papers with contexts that are now better honed thanks to feedback and support of peers.
