The annual PGBIO Inspirational Speaker seminar provides graduate students with an outstanding opportunity to meet a leader in her field and be inspired. Dame Prof. Amanda Fisher's seminar focused recent breakthroughs, and it demonstrated how one's journey into academia is not always a straightforward path.

Prof. Dame Amanda Fisher, Fellow of the Royal Society and the Academy of Medical Sciences, and recipient of the EMBO Gold Medal, has had a distinguished career. Currently the Whitley Chair of Biochemistry at the University of Oxford, Dame Fisher has previously served as Director of the Medical Research Council London Institute of Medical Sciences, where she founded the Suffrage Science Scheme to celebrate and inspire the careers of women in science. The audience was treated to captivating findings on a seminar entitled, "Epigenetics of Inheritance." It also provided an opportunity for reconnections of old friends and for postgraduates to meet with an eminent scientist. The visit was truly inspiring.
