Named University Of The Year 2023 in The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide, with 92% of our research classed as world-leading or internationally excellent by the Research Excellence Framework 2021, and an ongoing commitment to the advancement of gender equality, representation, progression and success for all, the University of Bath is a great place to complete your Royal Academy of Engineering Research Fellowship and grow your career in a supportive and innovative environment.

The University of Bath is running an internal selection process to determine which candidates we wish to support. Please submit your expression of interest (EOI) form by 21 February 2024 to participate in the internal selection process. Successful applicants will have a mentor in their research area, as well as support from Research and Innovation Services (RIS) to help with proposal development. We are expecting the Royal Academy of Engineering Research Fellowships scheme to officially open for applications in May 2024 and close in September 2024.

Who can apply?

We welcome applications from internal and external candidates. The scheme welcomes applications from early-career researchers worldwide who have been awarded their PhD in the last four years.

Number of applicants we can support

The scheme limits the number of applications per institution to two applications per round. Two additional applications can be submitted if the candidates identify as belonging to under-represented groups. The Academy has identified the following groups that are currently clearly significantly underrepresented in UK engineering research:

  • women
  • black people, including those with any mixed ethnicity with Black ethnic background(s)
  • disabled people

How to apply

The internal selection process will take place in three stages: EOI, Draft Proposal Review and Final Proposal Review. Applications will be subject to peer and panel reviews. Applicants not selected to go through to the second and third stages will receive feedback.

Candidates selected at EOI stage to go forward in the process will receive mentorship from a senior academic and support from Research and Innovation Services (RIS) to develop their proposal for the second and third stages.

To be considered for selection, you will need to complete a short Expression of Interest (EOI) application form, and submit a proposal summary and CV (details in the form below) by Wednesday 21 February 2024 at 5pm.

Please download the EOI application form and email it along with your proposal summary and CV to resdev@bath.ac.uk.
