In 2020, the University of Bath established a Suicide Prevention Working Group and has since developed a Suicide Safer Community Action Plan. As a group we meet regularly to monitor progress and drive this work forward, looking at how the University can help to raise awareness in our community, prevent suicide and support students who are impacted by suicide or a suspected suicide.

As part of this important work, Student Support and the national charity Survivors of Bereavement by Suicide (SoBS) will be on campus on Tuesday 28 March (5.30pm to 7pm) to offer support to students who have been affected by the loss of someone to suicide or a suspected suicide. Students are invited to come together to share (talk and/or listen) how they are being impacted, ask questions, and be supported by trained staff who will also talk about some of their own experiences of bereavement by suicide.

If you are interested in attending this supported group you can find more details and sign up via MySkills.

If you have any questions about the group please email Hannah at groupsforwellbeing@bath.ac.uk .

About SOBS

SoBS is a national charity that runs peer-led support groups across the UK. Their groups are facilitated by trained volunteers, all of whom have themselves been impacted by suicide. “We offer peer led support groups, online virtual support groups, a national telephone helpline, online community forum and email support. We offer a unique and distinct service for bereaved adults across the UK, run by the bereaved for the bereaved. Suicide recognises no social, ethnic or cultural boundaries and neither do we. Our helpline and groups are open to all survivors of bereavement by suicide aged 18 years and over”. You can read more about their support here Survivors of Bereavement by Suicide (uksobs.org).
