Hydraulic System Products (HSP) Ltd in their fiftieth year of business is an established designer, manufacturer, and supplier of hydraulic components , such as inline valves and cartridge valves, for fluid power systems.

Novel tools for advanced engineering modelling are to be developed through the newly awarded Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP), which will be embedded into HSP’s product range, to design and tailor products for customer specific needs.

This will broaden their product range and customer base, enabling HSP to be a more responsive designer and developer of hydraulic products.

Stephen Westwood, General Manager for Hydraulic Systems Products (HSP), says:

HSP currently sometimes lacks the underpinning knowledge for new product development. Utilising the expertise at University of Bath in fluid dynamics engineering will be highly innovative and enable us to deliver what our competitors cannot.

Dr Nigel Johnston, Reader and Faculty Director of Doctoral Studies, is the KTP lead, and Professor Andrew Plummer, Head of Department of Mechanical Engineering, the KTP supervisor. Dr Johnston says:

We hope that our partnership will help HSP to innovate and expand their range and market share as they adapt to new market pressures. The development of bespoke advanced engineering design modelling tools will support their future business growth and sustainability.

Dr Steven Boakes, Head of Knowledge Exchange at the University of Bath which is the team behind the full life-cycle programme support for KTP partners, says:

This KTP represents an exciting opportunity for both HSP and the academic partners to deliver the latest technologies in applied fluid dynamic engineering. Through this partnership, knowledge and expertise will be exchanged that will support exploration into new markets while embedding new capabilities and skills.

Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTPs) are funded by Innovate UK to help businesses to improve their competitiveness and productivity through the better use of knowledge, technology and skills within the UK knowledge base.
