I graduated from a bachelor’s in Chemistry with Management in 2021. During my degree, I did a placement as a Supply Chain Analyst at GSK, which confirmed to me that I wanted to pursue a career in business or financial sectors, in a global organisation based in London.
I have recently started working as a Management Consulting Associate at PwC. As I am still new to the role, I’m currently on a six-week induction course learning about the world of consulting. After this, I will get placed on a project with a client. Due to the nature of the work, it will be incredibly varied so I don’t think there will be such thing as a ‘typical day’. It’s the varied nature of this industry that makes it incredibly exciting!
Although I’m not 100% sure where my career will take me at the moment, I like the idea of specialising in financial services. I’d like to keep progressing year-by-year within PwC, gaining more responsibility at each stage. I’m hoping to develop a range of skills which can be transferred to other companies and roles if I decided to leave PwC in the future.
Transferable skills
As my degree was in Chemistry with Management, I’ve gained a range of knowledge from two completely different disciplines. I found this really useful when applying for jobs as I had a broad knowledge on a range of matters. Other skills, such as data analysis and time management, have also been hugely important so far.
I’ve found chemistry to be an incredibly strong degree. I’ve developed a range of transferrable skills that are relevant for any line of work, whether that be in science and research or business and finance. A Chemistry degree demonstrates an ability to absorb and understand large volumes of complex information, and apply it to numerous situations.
