Thanks to Research England Enhancing Research Culture funding, the press office is putting on four free introductory media training sessions for academics at the University on 9 and 10 April 2024.

Delivered by specialists from the award-winning media agency Broadcast Revolution, the hands-on sessions will give you an overview of how and why to engage with the media, alongside lots of practical advice and some all-important interview practice.

Broadcast Revolution works closely with the University press office and regularly helps secure high-profile appearances for our experts on TV and radio stations including BBC News, BBC national radio, LBC, Sky News, Channel 4 News and others.

The trainers are former broadcast journalists who work with producers and newsdesks at some of the UK’s biggest news shows every day, and can tell you what journalists are looking for as well as how you can make the most of an interview to get your message across.

Members of the University’s press office team will also be on hand so you can gain an understanding of how to work with the press office effectively.

The training is open to all post-doctoral E&R staff at the University and sessions will fill-up on a first-come-first-served basis.

The times and dates of sessions will be:

  • Faculty of Science: Tuesday 9 April, 0900-1130

  • Faculty of Engineering & Design: Tuesday 9 April, 1300-1530

  • Faculty of Humanities & Social Sciences: Wednesday 10 April, 0900-1130
