Career

Ellie has wide-ranging experience in higher education, having been student or staff at no less than seven universities. Her teaching experience includes teaching English Literature to undergraduates and devising and delivering university preparation courses in Sociology and Psychology for an international college. She also has an interest in distance learning, and has created several Philosophy courses and a study skills course for the platform Udemy.com.

Her experience lies particularly in supporting students to transition into university and she led on a number of projects around induction at the University of Warwick, as well as leading their Undergraduate Skills Programme and Award. She most recently brought this experience to bear teaching skills at Bath Spa University, where her 45-minute one-to-one appointments with students gave her a real insight into their challenges around assessment. She is now focused on applying this experience at Bath to help staff communicate meaningfully with students through assessment and feedback.

Education

PhD on the Novels and Plays of Frances Burney – Anglia Ruskin University. Ellie’s PhD thesis looked at the concept of feeling in the novels and plays of eighteenth century author, Frances Burney. She has published articles on eighteenth-century nerve theory and on Gothicism and is particularly interested in the History of Ideas and how Philosophy intersects with Literature.
