Sara Crew Technical Supervisor - Analytical Facilities

Sara manages the Analytical Services team, responsible for analytical suites and instrumentation as part of the Physical Structure Characterisation Facility.​

Role

Sara Crew is the Technical Supervisor for Analytical Facilities across the Faculty of Engineering & Design (FED).

She manages the Analytical Services team, responsible for analytical suites and instrumentation within the departments of Mechanical, Chemical, and Architecture & Civil Engineering.

Sara is a specialist in particle size analysis, utilising Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS) and Nanoparticle Tracking Analysis (NTA).

Career

Following a master's in Environmental Consultancy in 2015, Sara began her career as a technician, working in research and education.

She worked for six years in secondary and higher education, supporting students and researchers in GCSE and A-level biology, chemistry, physics, and forensic science.

Sara joined the University of Bath in 2021 as a Senior Analytical Technician and was responsible for maintenance, training, and method development on the Chemical Engineering department's material and particle characterisation instruments, including:

  • Nanosight
  • Zetasizer
  • Mastersizer
  • TOC

At the end of 2023, Sara started as Technical Supervisor, overseeing analytical provisions across the Faculty of Engineering and Design.
