Support for applications software installed on Unix systems and public PCs

Computing Services policy document BP06 Software Licensing, Acquisition & Procedures describes the cyclic process of acquiring applications software, software licence renewal and replacing software that is managed by, or under, Computing Services control.

Documentation is provided in a set of Web pages. Training courses for some software is provided by IT Training.

The Help Desk provides assistance in-person (Library Level 2), by telephone or by email.

Other Computing Services staff will provide support where appropriate, but all requests for assistance should be directed to the Help Desk or via the problem reporting web form in the first instance. Computing Services support staff for applications software is primarily System support. In general, Computing Services does not offer in-depth application specific support, although Computing Services will answer questions when able to do so.

An overview of software, in general, is provided and updated when appropriate. Some Applications Software, for example ANSYS, is installed on Computing Services UNIX servers. The Drive-G directory holds software that is available for use by registered users of the University of Bath Computing Services: normally the directory is mounted as drive g:\ on a PC. You can borrow CDs for installing some PC software from the Computer Shop. You will need to pay a deposit for this.
