Video recording service
The University has an ERA (Educational Recording Agency) license as well as an Open University license and can record any radio or television broadcast for educational purposes. A small charge may be levied to cover the cost of the tape but otherwise the service is free. Bookings should be made to the AV Unit in advance with details of broadcast time and channel.
We can also record from any "freeview digital" channel. For listings of all channels with start and end times or for program searches see the Radio Times web page.
Unfortunately we are unable to record/download programmes that have already been aired.

Copyright Guidelines
Recordings purchased or hired from shops are for individual use only and are not to be used for teaching unless you have permission from the copyright holder.
There are two BUFVC (British Universities Film & Video Council) databases;
- Hermes is a database of over 25,000 audiovisual programmes in distribution throughout the UK. Entries cover films, videos, DVDs, slides, sound recordings, tape-slide packages, computer courseware and interactive multimedia.
- BUFVC Television and Radio Index are available to all.
ERA
The ERA license is a recording and playback license; the copyright of a broadcast program is different to that of a Video/DVD even if the material is exactly the same. The ERA license does not cover Open University programmes. For more information on the ERA license see www.era.org.uk
