Who can attend these courses?
These courses are being run alongside the University wide upgrade of PCs to Windows 7 / Office 2010 and are available to both Staff and Postgraduate students (a small charge may apply for Postgraduates).
Please Note: These training courses are not available to members of the public or external organisations.
What training options are available?
- Instructor-led, classroom based training
- Self-paced, supervised training with an instructor on hand to provide assistance if needed.
What levels of training are available?
- Level 1 courses are the easiest and are suitable for beginners
- Level 2 courses are more suitable for users who are confident in using Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office, but want to learn more about the applictions.
- Level 3 courses are more advanced courses, usually focusing on a single topic or subject in greater depth than most courses.
Courses
All courses assume you have already completed the Upgrading to Office 2010 Core Changes training or have some previous experience using Office 2010, some courses also have additional pre-requisites, to enable you to get the most of the course please ensure you read these carefully to help you decide on the most apporiate courses for your needs.
Tutor Led Training
Power Point 2010 : Introduction
Course Level: Level 1 and Level 2
Pre-Requisites: Trainees should be confident with using the Windows 7 environment and familiar with using Office 2010.
Mode of Delivery: Tutor Led Workshop
Course Description: The course will introduce you to the most important features of PowerPoint 2010 so that you can create a professional and visually appealing slide show presentation.
After completing this course, you will be able to:
- Create and edit a presentation
- Use different slide layouts
- Insert pictures, tables and charts
- Use themes and slide backgrounds
- View your presentation in different ways
- Print handouts
Target Audience: This course is for staff and postgraduate students at University of Bath who have not used PowerPoint 2010 (Microsoft’s presentation package) before.

Using Media in PowerPoint 2010
Course Level: Level 2
Pre-Requisites: Trainees should be confident with using the Windows 7 environment and familiar with using Office 2010. You should also be able to create a PowerPoint presentation, use slide layouts, insert clip art and use different views of the slide show.
Mode of Delivery: Tutor Led Workshop
Course Description: The course will build on your PowerPoint knowledge and show you how to use pictures, videos, sounds and animations to enhance your presentations.
After completing this course, you will be able to:
- Insert pictures from files and from the web
- Edit images
- Use slide master view
- Insert and edit SmartArt
- Insert and edit shapes
- Insert video clips and audio clips
- Use animation and slide transitions
Target Audience: This course is for staff and postgraduate students from the University of Bath who already know the basics of PowerPoint and wish to learn more about using pictures, videos, sounds and animations to enhance their presentations.

Managing Presentations in PowerPoint
Course Level: Level 2
Pre-Requisites: Trainees should be able to create a PowerPoint presentation, use slide layouts, insert pictures and other media, and use different views of the slide show. Trainees should be confident with using the Windows 7 environment and familiar with using Office 2010.
Mode of Delivery: Tutor Led Workshop
Course Description: This course is for staff and postgraduate students who already know the basics of PowerPoint and wish to learn more about ways they can share their presentation with others.
After completing this course, you will be able to:
- Create and edit a custom show
- Produce non-linear presentations using Action Settings
- Record narration for a slide show*
- Set Up a Slide Show to be browsed by an individual
- Save your presentation in different formats
- Pack up a presentation for CD
- Broadcast your presentation to email recipients*
Additional Course Information *
- To broadcast your slideshow, you will need a Windows Live ID or Hotmail email address and password, so please set this up in advance of the course if you wish to have a go at broadcasting.
- This course also requires the use of a headset with microphone, these will be provided but you are welcome to bring your own if you prefer.

Self Paced Training
Power Point 2010 : Self Paced
Course Level: Level 1 and Level 2
Pre-Requisites: This course assumes that you have a knowledge of working with a computer, opening programs and are happy using a keyboard and mouse.
Mode of Delivery: Self Paced Workshop
Course Description: This course will show you how to create ‘on screen’ presentations. It will cover the use of animation, video, setting up a slide show and customizing a show.
- Create a presentation
- View the presentation in different views

Target Audience: Staff and Post Graduates whose use Office 2010 and wish to learn or refresh their knowledge of Power Point.
