Where around the University can you access software?
Your personal University workstation: This is for staff members and research postgraduates. These workstations might be on Active directory or just be a conventional stand alone PCs. If on AD your workstation can also be accessed from remote location, to find out if you are on AD check with this Active directory tool. To get software for a personal workstation you will need to contact your IT supporter through our online help form.
PC labs: When not in teaching use these rooms can be used by any student. Locations: 4 1W2.25, 2E1.14, 3E3.1, 1E3.9. these have public access computers.
In the Library: These have public access computers(PACS) and Thin client (Sunrays).
E-lounges: These can be found at locations 4E Level 3 and 5W level 3 and these have the Thin client (Sun ray).
Home use: stand-alone computers and laptops can use the 'Secure download' site to get access to software. Owing to the complexity of some site licenses you may not have access to the software. Unix : Unix is available at your University desktop on the HPC (High performance computer), sunrays, LCPU (Linux Central Processing unit) - to request software for any of these you will need to contact your supporter. Mac: Sophos anti virus can be downloaded from our ‘Secure download’ area.
