Requisites:
Learning Outcomes: After successfully completing this unit, you will be able to:
  • Recognize the transport properties and interactions of complex fluids, solids and multiphase systems to evaluate complex and integrated mechanisms. (A2.2b, A2.2e) [CLO: K2]
  • Apply advanced principles to industrial relevant separation and reaction problems. (A2.4a, A2.2c) [CLO: P3]
  • Apply advanced process modelling techniques and numerical methods to complex chemical engineering problems.

Synopsis: This unit builds on the previous units Principles of chemical engineering 1 and 2. You will learn how to apply advanced principles of chemical and biochemical engineering to complex systems often in the context of uncertainty. This will allow you to describe complex fluid flows and transport phenomena in multiphase systems, conduct advanced process modelling and solve problems in complex chemical reaction and separation process engineering.

Aims: This unit will:
  • introduce the concepts of complex fluids and multiphase system
  • apply advanced principles of chemical engineering to complex systems.

Skills:
  • Analysis [T,F,A]
  • Problem solving [T,F,A]

Content:
  • Advanced reaction engineering
  • Advanced separation processes
  • Advanced thermodynamics
  • Advanced transport phenomena
