Learning Outcomes: On completion of this course, students should be able to understand, explain, and apply:
  • Economic principles and concepts governing consumer and firm behaviour under a variety of (market) conditions.
  • Economic concepts to appraise the impact of public policies for consumer and firms.
  • Verbal, graphical, and analytical methods to solve and evaluate economic problems.



Synopsis: Gain introductory knowledge of the methods of microeconomic analysis, including a comprehensive and in-depth exploration of fundamental economic models and their applications.

You'll develop an understanding of how consumers and firms make their economic decisions, and how individuals or economic entities interact strategically.

You'll also be introduced to basic game theoretic concepts, and to how individuals make decisions in the face of uncertainty.

Content: The in-depth emphasis of the unit is on:
Consumer theory, both in the context of certainty and uncertainty.

Production theory as applied to perfectly and imperfectly competitive firm.

Introduction into game theory.

Further topics in applied microeconomics.
