Learning Outcomes:
  1. Discuss relevant research techniques across the health and exercise science sub-disciplines in the context of information communication and other health technologies
  2. Evaluate the use of health technologies to address health and exercise science challenges
  3. Discuss the need for an interdisciplinary approach to the application and evaluation of health technologies
  4. Assess how technologies are currently used in healthcare and behavioural settings, and synthesise and interpret information about their effectiveness and utility in an applied context
  5. Use information and health technologies to evaluate health and communicate findings to a variety of audience



Aims: To provide students with a comprehensive understanding and critical awareness of applications of various health technologies, through the history of their development and their role in facilitating, promoting, or supporting health and healthy behaviours.

Content:
  • Definitions, types and history of medical and commercial technologies
  • Current applications of e- and m-health technologies and other innovations from individuals to practice to policy
  • Differing perspectives on the use of health technologies (i.e. through the eyes of the health and exercise sub-disciplines).
  • Rationale/justification/context for the uptake of health technologies
  • Principles of Health Technology Assessment and how to evaluate immerging health technologies
