Synopsis: Explore the relationship between business and society in terms of fundamental concepts in business law and how business decisions reflect social and environmental concerns. The approach to business and the skills you learn in this unit will provide a framework for the rest of your course.

Content: The unit content includes: The provision of case study materials to inform the practice of teamwork, analytical, presentational and negotiation skills. To this end, relevant training is provided, with emphases on presentational and negotiation skills. Furthermore, a reading list is provided to help teams to embed their work in theory and evidence from the academic literature. The law element covers the framework of law, essential business contracts and non-contractual liability such as negligence. Students work through seminars in applying the principles to a range of case examples within their group, analysing and applying principles to practice.
