Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
  • Select an appropriate project management approach for different project types;
  • Assess and plan for project success with the classic constraints of time, cost and quality;
  • Identify the risks and uncertainties associated with projects;
  • Use the basic tools and techniques of project management likely to be encountered in practice.



Synopsis: Explore key concepts, frameworks and tools of project management, types of project organisations, and project-based strategies in different firms and industries. You will use case studies of major projects in leading international firms to examine the real-world challenges facing the project business in different industries. You will learn how to apply these approaches to any major project and project-based organisations.

Content: Key topics include: the context of project management, PM lifecycles from start to finish (including various methodologies traditional and agile), project stakeholders, risk management, project scheduling, project implementation and project closure (including lessons learned). Lectures will include examples of major private and public sector projects and the experiences of leading international firms. These case-studies will illustrate the challenges of managing projects and project-based organisations in real-world settings.
