Learning Outcomes: By the end of the unit students will be able to:
  • Identify a relevant criminological research question.
  • Locate, organise, and discuss relevant research to form an understanding of conceptual, theoretical and/or empirical work of relevance to that question.
  • Produce a structured and coherent written argument.



Synopsis: Develop your understanding of a topic of your choosing with the support of an academic supervisor.

Benefit from the diverse research experience of the Criminology staff group to undertake an independent study and produce an essay on that topic.

Content: Any area of research for which an adequate level of supervision is available can be offered.
