Doctoral College Activities Fund: enhance your interdisciplinary research experience
Find out more about this flexible fund, designed to support collaborative initiatives across the doctoral community.
Got an idea for an interdisciplinary activity?
The Doctoral College Activities Fund supports the development of initiatives that bring doctoral students together across disciplines and/or across institutions. As well as delivering the activity itself, planning and running activities provides you with a great opportunity to develop transferable skills as part of your professional development.
Awards of up to £500 can be applied for. However, we will consider applications for more substantial amounts if exceptional benefit for the doctoral student body across a number of disciplines can be demonstrated.
What are we looking for?
We will fund initiatives that bring together students from a number of different disciplines and build community across departments or institutions.
Applications which engage with the following are particularly encouraged:
demonstrating the personal and professional development opportunities that organising the activity will provide in terms of longer term benefits for the doctoral community
facilitating the engagement of students not based on the University campus- building on the University’s International Agenda
promoting the University’s commitment to equality, diversity and inclusivity
proposing creative use of the Level 5 Graduate Commons area
Please also consider the following when making your application:
activities that only benefit a single department will not normally be considered
initiatives may include student conferences/poster sessions, discussion groups and seminars for example, but we are keen to consider other activities that foster academic community
applicants should have already considered and, where available, obtained other sources of funding prior to applying
additional support can be provided to successful applicants with respect to training on how to run an event, room bookings, etc.
