Dr Richard Joiner is the winner of this year's Mary Tasker Award, set up to recognise excellence in teaching.
Widely acknowledged for his enthusiasm and passion for psychology, Richard's impact on students is evident from consistently high teaching evaluation scores. His contributions to literature on teaching further attest to this skill. His publications include articles evaluating new lecture styles, podcasts, Second Life and digital games in education. He's also produced nine peer-reviewed journal articles, presenting eight at international conferences on teaching and learning in higher education, and co-authored a popular text on developmental psychology, with two editions published over a ten-year span.
Dr Joiner has supported his interest in effective teaching via two national grants for teaching and learning among nine other grants from the University, faculty teaching and development funds. He's introduced several initiatives in teaching innovation, leading to useful tools that include the E-writing project as well as social networking sites for peer support and for digital games in teaching. The latter won an international award for innovation in teaching and learning.
This prestigious award reflects Richard's influence on learning and teaching and his international recognition.
