Join us on Tuesday 19 November for this year’s Animal Welfare and Ethical Review Body (AWERB) Lecture. We’re pleased to welcome Wendy Jarrett, Chief Executive of Understanding Animal Research, to deliver the talk.
The lecture is open to all university staff and students.
Understanding Animal Research is a not-for-profit organisation that explains why animals are used in medical and scientific research. The annual AWERB lecture aims to highlight current issues in animal research to our community.
At the University of Bath, research involving animals is fundamental to our understanding of cancer, ageing, neurodegenerative disease and addiction. You can find out more about how and why animals are used in research via our animal research webpages.
During her lecture, Wendy will explore ‘Phasing in of non-animal methods in biomedical research’, including the current policy drivers and advances towards replacing animals in regulatory safety testing. Non-animal techniques include using computational models, culturing ‘organs on chips’ and human stem cell-based tests.
The lecture will be held on Tuesday 19 November at 1.15pm in Chancellor’s Building 1.12.
