The International Relations Office is delighted to launch its latest call for the Bath-FAPESP SPRINT funding scheme, offering researchers up to £5,000 per year (matched by FAPESP) to foster international collaborations with partners in São Paulo, Brazil. São Paulo State Research Foundation (FAPESP) is a Brazilian public foundation with the mission to support higher education and research institutions across all fields of knowledge. This scheme supports both new and ongoing research projects across all disciplines, with funding facilitating researcher exchanges, workshops, and initial data collection to strengthen collaborative ties.

The Bath-FAPESP SPRINT partnership has a strong track record of fostering impactful collaborations, with 13 projects co-funded since 2018 in fields ranging from material science to healthcare and sustainability. Past Bath-FAPESP SPRINT projects have included research on fungal pathogens by Dr. Neil Brown from the Department of Biology and Biochemistry, who in 2019 collaborated with the University of São Paulo to develop innovative materials for the built environment. More recently, Dr. Jonathan Evans from the Department of Mathematical Sciences successfully secured his second Bath-FAPESP SPRINT project funding for work on complex fluids, highlighting the potential for long-term partnerships through this scheme. Other projects have spanned topics such as antiparasitic drug repositioning for cancer treatment and sustainable technologies. These collaborations not only enhance research outcomes but also raise the University of Bath's global profile through collaboration with leading Brazilian institutions, such as the University of São Paulo, University of Campinas, and São Paulo State University.

Applications require collaboration with a São Paulo-based researcher holding an active FAPESP grant and who is also applying to the FAPESP SPRINT 1/2025 call. No existing links are required to apply. All applications need to be submitted to the International Relations Office by Monday 30 June 2025.
