Following a competitive, externally advertised recruitment process, we are delighted to announce that the University’s Council has approved the appointment of Professor Tim Ibell as the next Dean of the Faculty of Engineering & Design. He will start in this role from 1 August 2021.
Staff and students from the Faculty were involved in the selection process and the appointment panel was grateful for their input into the process.
In selecting Professor Ibell as the preferred candidate, the appointment panel recognised his strong academic record across teaching and research and the leadership skills he has developed in a range of Associate Dean and Head of Department positions.
The panel was also impressed by his excellent external profile and experience, including as Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, past President of the Institution of Structural Engineers, and membership of past and current REF sub-panels.
