The University is committed to supporting the Armed Forces Community. We recognise the valuable contributions that serving personnel, reservists, veterans, and military families make to our university community.
Professor James Davenport and Dr Victoria Williamson are leading the initiative to embed the Armed Forces Covenant at our University. They would like to hear from anyone who is a University staff member or student who is a veteran, reservist, service family member, or cadet forces adult volunteer (CFAV). They are also interested in hearing from those with an interest in our Armed Forces Covenant, including those who have supported the military in civilian roles, or academics conducting research with the Armed Forces Community.
Why we want to hear from you
We will be establishing an Armed Forces Covenant network called ‘Military Matters’. The objectives of this network will include:
- Providing a platform to share experiences and offer mutual support.
- Running a peer mentoring scheme for ex-military personnel when they join the university.
- Connecting academic researchers to collaborate, produce high quality evidence and mobilise knowledge regarding our military population.
- Championing the Armed Forces Covenant at the University of Bath by ensuring our pledges are upheld and looking for opportunities for improvement.
- Being inclusive and welcoming to anyone with an interest in the military and our Armed Forces Covenant.
A few words from our Co-chairs Professor James Davenport and Dr Victoria Williamson:
At the University of Bath, we recognise the vital contributions of the Armed Forces Community and are committed to supporting those who serve, have served, and their families. Through the ‘Military Matters’ network, we will create a space for shared experiences, mentorship, and collaboration. We encourage all veterans, reservists, service family members, CFAVs, and researchers with an interest in military-related fields to connect with us and help shape this important initiative.
If you are interested in getting involved, please email diversity@bath.ac.uk or contact James or Victoria for further discussion.
