The University of Bath is 6th nationally and the highest-ranked south west university according to the Guardian University Guide 2020 which has just been published (Friday 7 June 2019).

This is the same top 10 position in the national league table as last year’s Guardian University Guide 2019.

Bath ranks in the top 10 for 11 subjects, including number two in the country for Sociology and number three for Business, Management and Marketing, and Psychology.

Other subjects in the top 10 include: Accounting and Finance (5), Architecture (4), Chemical Engineering (8), Civil Engineering (4), Electronic and Electrical Engineering (8), Mechanical Engineering (4), Social Policy and Administration (8) and Social Work (6).

Professor Ian White, President and Vice-Chancellor said: “I am delighted to see the University of Bath ranked 6th in the UK in today’s Guardian University Guide 2020.

“This ranking is an excellent endorsement of the quality of our courses and is evidence of the great talent and commitment of both our students and our staff. It was particularly pleasing to see so many individual subjects ranked very highly.

The Guardian’s performance indicators for judging a university consist of:

  • Satisfaction with course;
  • Satisfaction with teaching;
  • Satisfaction with feedback;
  • Student to staff ratio;
  • Spend per students;
  • Average entry tariff;
  • A value added score comparing students degree results with their entry qualifications;
  • Graduate employment after six months;
  • Percentage of first-year students continuing into second year.
