The Pension Board includes a staff representative who is a member of the University of Bath Group Pension Plan (UoBGPP).
We are currently inviting applications from UoBGPP members to fill this vacancy. The appointment is for an initial 12-month term, with the option to extend for up to three years in total.
About Pension Board
Pension Board meets twice a year, and oversees the following aspects of the UoBGPP:
- Effective communications to members
- Efficient cost of the services provided by AVIVA
- Effective investment funds for members to select
- Efficient administration of the plan, both by the University and AVIVA as plan administrator
Pension Board Members
- Director of Finance Operations (nominee of Director of Finance) - Chair
- The Director of Human Resources (or nominee)
- Director of Finance Operations (IAAPS Limited)
- Representative from the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion team.
- One Plan member for both UoB and IAAPS Limited (nominated or volunteer from membership)
Attendees at Pension Board Meeting
- A support staff trade union representative
- External Advisor
- Head of Finance Operations
- Pensions Officer
Members are not required to have experience or knowledge of pensions, as training is provided but members will be expected to attend a limited number of meetings, and where appropriate undertake some background reading.
Expectation of Pension Board member
As a Pension Board member, you will:
- attend Pension Board meetings, likely no more than twice a year
- participate in all relevant training as recommended by the external advisor
- read and engage with all material circulated to Pension Board members, this is expected to be limited to around 10 email circulations each year
- serve a period of 12 months, with the option to continue for up to three years
How to make a nomination
To submit your nomination please email jw3309@bath.ac.uk with a 150-word statement and the names of two colleagues who support your nomination, both of whom must be eligible to vote in the election (i.e. who are members of the UoBGPP).
If more than one nomination is received, a vote will be held. Should an election be required, supporting statements will be circulated with voting information.

Expenses and Time
This is an unpaid role; the University will however reimburse any expenses incurred directly in your role on the Pension Board. Service on the Pension Board is expected to be undertaken within normal working hours, with managers providing reasonable time off from regular duties to enable the postholder to fulfil their responsibilities.
