The Westwood Nursery, based on campus, was inspected by OFSTED at the end of last year and achieved an "Outstanding rating" across all areas of the assessment.

The nursery currently cares for 48 children, aged between 6 months and school age, and is an essential part of the University’s commitment to provide a family friendly workplace.

The OFSTED inspector was particularly impressed by the nursery’s ethos around diversity and equality, noting that staff promote the many different languages, cultures and customs followed by children and their families. The report went on to describe management as inspirational and praised the wide range of stimulating resources that motivate the children to use their skills, senses and imagination. BANES Early Years’ Service team also commended the team on their fantastic result.

Pauline Young, Childcare Services Manager said: “It gives me great pleasure to manage, lead and support the childcare team. We work incredibly hard together, demonstrating enthusiasm and dedication whilst continually striving for success.”

Chris Young, Deputy Director Safety & Wellbeing Services said: “An ‘Outstanding’ rating for the third time in a row is an incredible achievement, especially considering the tough and rigorous new process.”

“This inspection result reflects the continued hard work, commitment and outstanding contribution that each member of the team makes to provide a high quality and supportive educational setting where every child matters. I know that the work they do is greatly valued by the children and their parents and carers.”
