The University campus is open as normal today, Thursday 9 March, after restrictions following yesterday's snow. We are advised that buses are running as usual, but please be aware that Quarry road is currently closed.

Academic colleagues who are teaching today are asked to do so in person wherever possible, and make every attempt to move teaching online otherwise.

There is still some snow and ice on surfaces, so please take care when travelling to University buildings and moving around campus, allow extra time for journeys and be cautious on the roads.

Colleagues from Campus Services and Infrastructure are making every effort to clear and grit surfaces on campus , however please take care when walking. Health and Safety advice is:

  • Walk – don’t run. Wear non-slip footwear. Allow more time for your journey, just as you would if driving
  • Try to leave hands free to aid balance and protect against falls
  • Stick to footpaths and avoid steep banks and inclines
  • Take care when walking or cycling up and down hills.
  • On no account attempt to walk on areas of frozen water, including the lake, which is extremely hazardous.
