The Departments of Physics and Psychology have achieved an impressive milestone, with 80.7% of new Undergraduate and PGT students in each department completing the NeverOK induction training. The module outlines the University's expectations of students with regards to respect, standing up against harassment, and provides vital information on how to report misconduct.

The Department of Chemical Engineering came a close second, with 78.9% of first year students completing the training. On a faculty level, the Faculty of Science took the lead with a 72.4% completion rate, and the Faculty of Engineering and Design in 2nd, with 69.6%.

In recognition, certificates and #NeverOK goodies were presented to the top Departments and Faculties. The Department of Psychology chose to receive their certificate in-person at their Christmas departmental meeting. Nyika Suttie (Student Culture and Inclusion Training Officer) presented the certificate to Professor Richard Joiner, Deputy Head of Department. As well as their excellent induction completion numbers, Psychology also hosted two Allyship training sessions for Postgraduate Taught students this semester.

Across all departments, a significant number of first year students completed the NeverOK module during induction 2024, recording the highest ever completion numbers. The NeverOK team would like to thank all academic and professional services staff for their ongoing support to make this possible. During induction 2025 we will be hoping to improve completion rates further. Could your department or faculty beat 80%?

About NeverOK

NeverOK is the University's anti-harassment and bystander intervention initiative. It empowers students to take action if they witness or experience an incident of unwanted or unacceptable behaviour. In addition to the online training modules, bespoke in-person training is available for departments, often as part of skills or employability modules. To learn more about the training available, view the NeverOK Training Brochure.

Staff and Students who witness or experience unwanted or unacceptable behaviour can report it through Support and Report. Your details will be kept confidential, and nothing will happen without your consent.
