We would like to say a huge thank you to Professor Andrew Heath for all the work he has done in the past four years in his part-time role as Director of the CLT and congratulate Dr Chris Bonfield, who will take his place as Acting Director.

Andrew held roles as Director of Studies for undergraduate, taught postgraduate and postgraduate research in the Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering before becoming Associate Dean for Learning and Teaching in the Faculty of Engineering and Design. He was appointed part-time as the Director of the CLT in 2016 and during this period the CLT supported the work on Curriculum Transformation and more recently the move to online teaching and assessment as well as the Bath Blend. He will be returning full-time to the Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering where he is currently the Director of the Centre for Infrastructure, Geotechnical and Water Engineering research.

Chris joined Bath as a Learning Technologist in 2016, working across the University to support staff in using new and existing technologies to enhance learning, teaching and assessment. Shortly after he joined, the CLT was formed, and Chris was appointed as Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) Manager – more recently, Head of TEL. Chris has helped to transform the TEL team into a widely-respected and joined-up service that supports staff in their use of Moodle, tools such as Re:View (Panopto), Zoom and Mahara. He has worked closely with the outgoing Director, the CLT leadership team, and the wider University on key CLT strategies and projects, including digital skills, digital assessment and most recently, helping to plan and deliver the Bath Blend and support staff in their transition to blended teaching. His proudest moment was seeing his team awarded “Team of the Year” this summer, and he looks forward to building on the success of the CLT under Andrew Heath, and continuing to ensure that the Centre meets the needs of the University community.

Professor Peter Lambert, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Learning and Teaching) said: "Andrew has been an outstanding Director of the CLT and we really couldn’t have asked more from him. He has reorganised the department to work more closely with departments and faculties, he has helped develop and lead Curriculum Transformation, and more recently he has worked tirelessly with his team to ensure essential support and guidance during our shift to online teaching and assessment, culminating in the Bath Blend. He has done this with clear strategic and operational planning, but also with good humour and openness.

"With Andrew’s departure however, we are delighted with the appointment of Dr Chris Bonfield who has already proven himself as an outstanding and widely admired head of the TEL team and who will continue to develop the role and work of the CLT.”

Please join us in wishing Andrew well as he returns full-time to the Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering and congratulating Chris on his appointment.
