Manvers Street in Bath city centre is being temporarily closed to all motor vehicles, from the end of May until November 2026. Work is taking place to replace concrete slabs and foundations above the road's vaults and cellars, to ensure its safety.

The Virgil Building will be open as usual.

Pedestrians will still have access to the footpaths; cyclists will have to dismount and walk.

All bus stops on Manvers Street and Dorchester Street (opposite the railway station) will be closed while the work is taking place, and a diversion route will be in place for all buses, including the U1 and U3:

  • the U1 buses will only run as far as Grand Parade. From the University, buses will go from Bathwick Hill via Vane Street, Edward Street, and Great Pulteney Street. You can use all bus stops along the diversion route. From the city to the University the buses will go via North Parade & Bathwick Hill
  • the U3 buses will run via Rossiter Road and Churchill Bridge between Bathwick Hill and The Ambury / Corn Street
  • the U1N buses will run from the University via Rossiter Road, and then the normal route from The Ambury. Towards the University the buses will go on the normal route to Corn Street then via Churchill Bridge, Rossiter Road, Edward Street, and Great Pultney Street, then the normal route from Grand Parade
  • the bus stops at Dorchester Street (Bath Spa Station) (Bh/Bp), Corn Street (Wt), Avon Street (Wm), James Street West (Ge), Bath Abbey (Cf), North Parade (Cd), and Green Park (Gb) are closed for UniBus services.

You can see details of the U1, U1N, and U3 changes on the maps above. Larger versions of the maps are on the First Bus website in the sections for the U1, U1N, and U3.

The U4 buses aren't affected by this closure. You're advised to catch buses in the City Centre from Grand Parade.

You can view the map of the affected roads on One.Network.

Manvers Street Car Park will remain open throughout the works.
