The Men's Network ran a successful health event for male staff in early June.
Led by Hannah Van Buuren, a team from Sports Development and Recreation kindly gave up their time to run a series of health checks for male colleagues. Our male staff were invited to drop in and get checked, free of charge, to help identify any areas of concern, or to alleviate any concerns.
As well as blood pressure, height and weight checks, there were additional tests for colour blindness and distance vision test (DVLA certified) as well as a reactions game and information on testicular problems – all washed down with tea, coffee and biscuits.
Simon Brown, who organised the event, said:
Wow, what a success! Hannah and her team were amazing and can’t thank them all enough. Without them, the event simply wouldn’t have been the success it was. Thanks also to Adam, Ian and Andy who came along to help. It was so encouraging to see so many of our male staff interested in looking after their health. We'll definitely be running more of these sessions in the future.

Yet again it was a well-attended event, well organised, welcoming, and informative. The free health check was a very good addition which I think we all made use of. Not only was this great on a personal level, but must definitely have a positive effect on the NHS saving GPs surgeries having to do this check. Luckily all was good for me but being in my 50s it was nice to know. So thank you Simon for another great Men's Network event.
