The Five Ways to Wellbeing is a model established by the New Economics Foundation. Their research shows that building five actions (connect, be active, take notice, keep learning and give) into our day-to-day lives is important for our wellbeing.

This Mental Health Awareness Week we will explore each of these actions daily, and highlight some steps you can take to give your wellbeing a boost.

Connect

Good relationships are important for your mental wellbeing. They can:

  • help you build a sense of belonging and self-worth
  • give you an opportunity to share positive experiences
  • provide emotional support and allow you to support others

We all need to feel close to other people and valued by them. At work, having good relationships with colleagues helps us stay motivated and engaged. Connecting is about being there for others, talking and listening, and feeling a sense of belonging.

Meaningful conversations about mental health and wellbeing don’t have to be hard conversations. Being able to talk about our mental health, including our thoughts and feelings, is a sign of connection and a good attitude towards health at work.

Join our Community & Inclusion event this Wednesday to celebrate the many ways our University community is working to create a welcoming, inclusive and connected environment.
