This Armed Forces Day (28 June), the co-founders of Military Matters stand together with other military connected organisations and charities including Combat Stress, Help for Heroes, RAF Benevolent Fund, and others to celebrate those serving and the lasting legacy of veterans.

Founded in 2025, Military Matters is a new support network for the Armed Forces community at the University of Bath. It also serves as a collaborative space for researchers focused on improving the health and wellbeing of those affected by armed conflict — bringing people together to drive meaningful change and lasting impact.

Dr Victoria Williamson, a Senior Lecturer in the University of Bath’s Department of Psychology, and the President of UK Psychological Trauma Society, said:

Our Armed Forces personnel and reservists do an exceptional job, often in incredibly challenging circumstances. We owe it to them — and to their families — to ensure they have the support they need and that we produce high-quality research that genuinely improves lives. In today’s climate of increasing global conflict, that commitment matters more than ever. Military Matters is a new initiative at the University of Bath, created to recognise and connect our Armed Forces community and highlight their contributions.

Abi Phillips, Deputy Director Culture and Inclusion:

On Armed Forces Day, we proudly recognise and thank the people who serve and have served in our Armed Forces, and the families who support them. As our Military Matters staff network continues to grow and thrive, we reaffirm our commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant and to supporting our community of veterans, reservists and forces families at the University of Bath
