In collaboration with our Employability and Student Success colleagues, and in response to student feedback, we’re expanding our Academic Skills offer for the 2025–26 academic year. These new courses are designed to support your development in key areas that employers value and will help you succeed during and beyond your studies.
Enrolments will open soon for the following courses:
Workplace Essentials
Starting a new job - whether it’s an internship, part-time role, or graduate position - can be both exciting and challenging. You’re often expected to adapt quickly, learn new tools, and communicate professionally in unfamiliar environments.
We've created Workplace Essentials to support you through that transition. This series of six practical, 50-minute workshops is designed to help you build confidence in the core skills employers value most. From writing clearly and managing emails to using Excel and contributing in diverse teams, each session focuses on a key area to help you feel more prepared and capable in the workplace. Each workshop will be either in-person or online, depending on the topic.

Public Speaking
This in-person course will run in Semester 1 and consist of four linked workshops. You’ll enrol for the full course, not individual sessions, as each workshop builds on the last, helping you develop the skills and confidence to deliver a short presentation to your peers by the end of the course.
This workshop series is currently sold out. You can join the waiting list on Myskills.
Professional English for Employment
This in-person course is designed specifically for all Postgraduate Taught (PGT) students. It will help you develop confidence in using professional English across a range of workplace contexts, including meetings, presentations and written communication.
If you’re a PGT student starting in September 2025, you can book your place in MySkills.
Inbox Insights
Alongside the Managing Your Email workshops that are part of Workplace Essentials, you can access Inbox Insights too. This is a digital resource designed to help you manage your inbox more effectively through practical strategies tailored to university life.
