What's happening
We’re updating the design and functionality of the Announcement content type on the website. This will affect news stories, press releases, and service status updates.
We'll release the new Announcement design on Tuesday 13 October 2026.
This new design is not part of the Global Voice and Reputation project or the Website Transformation project but marks the latest phase in our ongoing work to transition page templates into our Lens design system.
Changes to Announcements
The new Announcement brings a consistent design with other Lens design system pages. This also prepares it for the new University brand and visual identity, launching in October.
Optional features new to the updated announcement page type include:
- a prominent 'Focus' section for embedding a variety of media
- flexible Narrative sections that improve accessibility for all readers
- a Navigation section to make exploring related pages easier
- an additional Multimedia component
- related Announcement, Case study and Guide sections
- an enhanced and expanded contacts section for press releases
- a Footnotes section to enhance the clarity of complex pages

If you're a Typecase user, the Digital Content team will email you with more information about the new template and design.
We'll update our guidance about creating an Announcement page in Typecase so you're prepared to start using the template when it's released.
