The UK Council for Graduate Education (UKCGE) supervisor accreditation provides an opportunity for research supervisors to develop their practice and attain official recognition for supervision through structured self-reflection.

UKCGE is the representative body for postgraduate education and research in the UK. THey champion and enhance postgraduate education and research by enabling collective leadership on the development of postgraduate affairs across UK HEIs, research agencies and funding bodies. They do this by providing learning and professional development events, commissioning research, sharing best-practice developments, and by gathering information and evidence to support policies which promote a strong and sustainable postgraduate sector.

The University of Bath is taking part in a pilot in collaboration with other GW4 universities, which will allow for up to 12 doctoral supervisors, at each institution, to undergo the UKCGE accreditation.

As part of the pilot, you will be supported with the preparation of your self-reflective application through the following

• An introductory workshop, with the creator of the accreditation process, who will provide advice on the process, the application form and the review process
• Regular drop in sessions, where you can write the application form and meet with others undertaking the process
• A Q&A session, with the creator of the accreditation process, where you can ask specific questions about your application

In order to take part, you must be currently supervising a doctoral student, have undertaken the mandatory Doctoral Supervisor training at the University of Bath and be able to take part in one of the two introductory sessions which are being held at 13.00-15.00 on the 15 October 26 or at 11.00-13.00 on the 21 October 26

You will need to commit to taking the time to write an application (5000 words) and to participate in an evaluation exercise at the end of the pilot.

If we receive more than 12 applications, the selection will be undertaken by the Associate Pro-VC Research - Doctoral and Academic Director(Doctoral), based on the statement for how the accreditation will benefit you and your doctoral students. There will also be a consideration of the balance across disciplines of those selected.
