Our ‘Cryogenic Engineering for Sustainable Flight’ course was delivered for the first time in January. Delegates learnt about a range of topics from the fundamental behaviour of fluids and materials at cryogenic temperatures, to practical system design. Expert lecturers from GKN Aerospace and the University Bath were joined by cryogenic specialists from CERN and the ALMA Observatory as guest speakers. In addition to lecture sessions, we had three hands-on practical labs and two demonstration lab sessions, as well as a hands-on computer modelling exercise.

We were pleased that the course was popular and very well-received by delegates. We have now delivered the course again in June 2026 with more planned in 2027. After some re-organising of the material we have renamed this course as "Fundamentals of Cryogenic Engineering" to reflect its wider appeal.
