Professor Alain Nogaret a physicist at the University of Bath has been elected Fellow of the Institute of Physics (IoP), an award that marks the highest level of membership attainable within the Institute. The IoP, founded in 1874, is the professional body for physics in the UK. It has worldwide membership of over 23,000 physicists and works to support physics in education, research and industry. The title of Fellow recognizes the accomplishments of distinguished Physicists who have made a significant impact on their sector. Professor Nogaret is internationally recognised for having constructed some of the most accurate models from biological data and implementing these models in neuromorphic devices. His development of the first neuromorphic pacemaker has made it possible to revert chronic cardiac disease. His pioneering contributions have led him to head several international consortia and launch a successful University start up in 2016 (Ceryx Medical). His work has been reported in over 160 research papers, 5 original patents, and has been widely disseminated in the mainstream media, and on the web.
