Professor Ian Craddock has been appointed as the University’s Dean of the Faculty of Engineering & Design, following approval from Council. He takes up the position on 21 September 2026.

Professor Craddock will join us from the University of Bristol, where he is currently Head of School for Civil, Aerospace and Design Engineering. He brings with him experience working across the whole of Engineering and into areas of Medicine as Principal Investigator (PI) of the SPHERE and TORUS EPSRC programme grants, of the LEAP Digital Health Hub, and as founding PI the Digital Health Centre for Doctoral Training. He has been a member of Bristol's Board of Trustees for the past six years and also has eight years' experience in industry, including as Director of Toshiba’s Bristol Research Laboratory.

Professor Craddock has also held roles as Research Director for the Faculty of Engineering and as Institutional lead for Digital Health at Bristol. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).

I grew up just outside Bath and it was actually the first University I visited as a child. I am very proud to be taking up the position of Dean of this thriving and well-respected Faculty. I was pleased to meet a number of colleagues during the recruitment process and look forward to meeting many more over the coming months.

Professor Craddock has been heavily involved in the creation of several new degree programmes, held responsibility for undergraduate admissions, and pioneered the introduction of new approaches to taught postgraduate education.

Professor Craddock takes over the helm from Professor Tim Ibell, who completes a successful five year term as Dean this autumn.
