Professor Phil Allmendinger is set to leave Bath at the end of August 2023 for an executive role as Chief Academic Officer at Forward College, one of the first pan-European higher education institutions.

During his time at the University of Bath, one of the key areas of focus for Professor Allmendinger has been working alongside the Deans and other colleagues to establish a new academic-led planning approach, supported by the Department of Planning, Performance & Strategic Change. This work, which included working with Nous consultancy and a pilot ‘Big Ideas’ initiative, has established a new process and approach which should continue to iterate and benefit the University over the coming years.

Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Ian White said: “I would like to thank Phil most sincerely for all he has achieved during his time with us, particularly in relation to planning and in terms of civic and local engagement. We have valued greatly his contributions to the Executive Board and the expertise he has brought to his role. The new role at Forward College represents a once-in-a-career opportunity and we wish him every success in the future.”

Professor Phil Allmendinger, Deputy Vice-Chancellor said: “It has been a real pleasure to work with so many talented colleagues here in Bath. The opportunity to become Chief Academic Officer at Forward College and to help develop and expand innovative teaching across numerous campuses throughout Europe, including in Paris, Lisbon and Berlin, was simply too good an opportunity to miss. I look forward to continuing my work here over the summer and also to retaining close links with the University of Bath.”

Professor Allmendinger will continue as Deputy Vice-Chancellor until 31 August 2023, and he will assist with arrangements for the future, which will be established well ahead of his departure.
