Professor Stephen Wilson has been elected as one of the 2025 cohort of new Fellows of the American Physical Society (APS), as recommended by the Division of Fluid Dynamics (DFD).
This notable honour, which is restricted to no more than half of one percent of the full members of the APS each year, is for his “outstanding contribution to physics” and marks out Professor Wilson as one of the international leaders in the field of fluid dynamics. Specifically, the citation highlights his “innovative and insightful use of mathematical and asymptotic methods to gain fundamental new insights into a wide range of problems in fluid mechanics, including droplet evaporation, thin-film and rivulet flows, and flows of complex fluids”.
Professor Wilson spent more than 30 years at the University of Strathclyde before moving to the University of Bath in September 2024, and remains a Research Professor in (and a regular visitor to) the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Strathclyde.
