Following a successful initial deployment within Digital, Data and Technology (DDaT), we are rolling out Platform Single Sign-On (Platform SSO) to all University-managed Macs. Platform SSO connects your Mac to Microsoft Entra ID, the University's identity platform. Once registered, signing in to your Mac also signs you in to University Microsoft services, so you will see far fewer password prompts across apps and browsers. Where a sign-in is still required, you can approve it with Touch ID using a passkey held securely on your Mac, rather than typing your password.
What to expect
From Monday 3 August, you will receive a notification on your Mac from the Company Portal app: "Registration Required: Please register with your identity provider." When you see this prompt, please click the notification and follow the on-screen instructions. Registration is a one-off task and only takes a few minutes.
How to register
- Click the Registration Required notification.
- Click Continue on the Single Sign-On for Mac prompt.
- Use Touch ID or your Mac password to allow the registration.
- Sign in with your University email address when prompted by Microsoft.
- When asked to allow Company Portal to autofill passkeys, click Open System Settings and toggle on Company Portal under AutoFill & Passwords, then confirm the success message.
- You will see a Registration Complete screen confirming the process has finished.
Device compliance
Registration also allows your Mac to report its security compliance status (such as FileVault encryption) to Microsoft, in the same way University Windows devices already do. This happens automatically in the background; there is nothing further you need to do.
Will this affect my access?
No. Registration will not block or restrict your access to any University services, and no conditional access policies currently enforce Mac compliance support.
