By sharing your perspectives on sustainability, you help influence how we act as a community and where we focus our efforts. The Sustainability Survey runs annually to make sure our actions are informed by what matters most to students and staff.
Last academic year, students called for greater visibility and communications about sustainability on campus. To help you stay connected, this year we have launched new Sustainable Bath Instagram and LinkedIn accounts, created over 30 new webpages, including a dedicated student sustainability hub, and introduced a newsletter to help you find all the opportunities designed with you in mind.
Your priorities
Sustainability matters to students
Sustainability continues to be important to you. In fact, 92% of students said sustainability matters to them, with many highlighting the benefits for both personal wellbeing and the planet.
If you’re looking for practical ways to build more sustainable habits that will help you save money and the planet, explore the student guide to sustainability for everyday tips.
Students want skills for the future
You placed strong value on the support the University can offer around sustainability, particularly when it helps develop skills and knowledge relevant to your future careers.
While 49% of you feel sustainability is embedded in your studies, it’s clear you want more opportunities to build knowledge, skills and relevant experience. This year, we have developed a bold, new, strategic initiative to further embed sustainability across all parts of your education at Bath. It will bring together the curriculum and co-curricular opportunities to help you develop as a sustainability leader and thrive as a graduate in a changing world.
Be part of shaping what sustainability education looks like at Bath. Join us on Monday 22 June, 2.30pm to 4pm, for an interactive workshop where your ideas will create real, tangible impact at Bath, and enjoy free cake while you’re at it. By getting involved, you’ll have the chance to influence the new Education for Sustainability Framework, support the learning of future students, and develop valuable skills along the way.
Fairness and leadership matter
You made it clear you value visible leadership for sustainability and place strong importance on fairness when taking sustainability action across our community. As a University, this means leading by example, walking the talk and being transparent about our progress in sustainability.
Over the past year, leadership and support for sustainable research practice have been strengthened by signing the Concordat for Environmental Sustainability of Research & Innovation Practice. In the coming year, a new Sustainability Plan will launch, reinforcing our long-term commitment and aligning sustainability with our wider institutional strategy.
Alongside the University, the SU are continuing to take action. This year, they have taken meaningful steps for sustainability by launching a new multi-year action plan, establishing the SUstainable SU Forum, relaunching the Sustainability Badge, and capturing their progress on new sustainability webpages.
Looking ahead
Your priorities are helping inform new plans, guiding decision-making, and influencing how sustainability is embedded across teaching, research, and campus life. Sustainability at Bath will continue to evolve throughout the year as we turn student perspectives into practical action. And it doesn’t stop here. You can continue to use your voice, get involved, and take action for sustainability through the range of opportunities designed for you.
