The Bath & North East Somerset Council 2013/14 Chairman’s Community Awards honours volunteers, community leaders, educational institutions and businesses that make a positive contribution to the local community.
The University received two awards and three commendations during a ceremony at Bath Guildhall last Wednesday.
The Students’ Union won the Education Award for a range of volunteer projects that support older people in the community.
Enactus, a student-led social enterprise team, scooped The Young Volunteer Team title.
Sara Ali took a Highly Commended award in the Young Volunteer of the Year category for her work on projects, including: the Students’ Union RAG fundraising group and the Royal United Hospital’s Forever Friends Appeal.
In the category of Young Volunteer Leader Fred Norman was Highly Commended for his work with Age UK.
The final commendation went to Matt Humberstone, Chair of the student V-Team and Scout Leader (31stBath).
Councillor Will Sandry, Chair of the Student Community Partnership, said, “Students who live in the B&NES area make a really positive contribution to the community and it is fantastic that so many students were nominated and that all their hard work has been recognised at the awards.”
