The Department of Pharmacy & Pharmacology is the first in the University to achieve a prestigious Silver Athena SWAN Award, which recognises that equality is well embedded within the department.

Dr Sarah Bailey, Senior Lecturer, led the departmental self-assessment team to submit the application which built on their previous Bronze Award, also currently held by eight of our other departments.

The University has also successfully renewed its Bronze Award for developing an inclusive culture that values all staff and creates a solid foundation for removing gender bias.

Professor Linda Newnes, Chair of the University self-assessment team (USAT), said: “Achieving these awards is a clear demonstration of the University’s commitment to success for all. Our first Department Silver Award is a great accolade for the Department of Pharmacy & Pharmacology.”

Mark Humphriss, University Secretary and Chair of the Equality and Diversity Committee, added: “I am delighted that we have received this clear endorsement. Our first departmental Silver award, with others in preparation, should give us all confidence to work towards the positive impact required for a successful silver University award in the future.”
